First Global Banking Leaders Programme Officially Opened
Followed by The Signing of a Joint Declaration to Professionalise The Banking Industry
KUALA LUMPUR:- The Asian Banking School’s (ABS) flagship Global Banking Leaders Programme was officially opened today by the Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, Datuk Muhammad bin Ibrahim.

The ABS programme is a collaboration with one of the world’s top ranked business schools, the Cass Business School; City, University of London, and is the first of its kind to be developed for the banking sector in Malaysia. Attended by top level members of the industry, today marks the first day of the programme which will run in Kuala Lumpur for the 1st week, and will be followed immediately by a second week in London at the Cass Executive Education campus.

The same event also saw Governor Datuk Muhammad witness the signing of a joint declaration between the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB) and the Malaysian commercial banking industry. The CEOs and representatives of 22 member banks of The Association of Banks in Malaysia gave their commitment to raise the professional standards in the banking industry in Malaysia by creating a workforce which ascribes to high standards of professional conduct, knowledge and competence.

In achieving this, they recognise the value of the Chartered Banker programme as a world-class professional qualification in enhancing and achieving the highest standards of excellence, competencies and professionalism in the Malaysian banking industry. The programme is jointly awarded by AICB and the Chartered Banker Institute in the United Kingdom, with training for the programme being taught by ABS.

“AICB in its role as the professional body for bankers in Malaysia further commits to ensure adherence to its Code of Professional Conduct and the commitment of its members to Continuous Professional Development in order to maintain the highest standards of professionalism in banking in Malaysia”, said Tan Sri Azman Hashim, Chairman of both AICB and ABS, before receiving the signed declarations from all the banks at the ceremony.
