The ability to navigate emotions effectively is a crucial ingredient to enhance our leadership behaviours at work. Emotional intelligence (EQ) is the most important skill to learn, to bring about better climate in our team.

This programme is designed to provide Leaders’ awareness on Emotional Intelligence (EQ) as an asset in helping them to make optimal decisions, effective communication, building Trusting Relationship and Engaging Leadership.

    • Activity: Sharing Your Personal Motive (from Picture Story Writing Exercise)
  • Module 2: Managing Emotions for Leadership Effectiveness Leadership EQ Mastery Principle 2: Energize Others with Emotional Connection
    • What makes an EQ-able leader
    • The cost of ineffective emotional management that leads to derailment and disengagement – Amygdala Hijack
    • Self-control and emotional regulation for effective people management in leadership
    • Activity: Sharing Your Personal Emotional Hijack Story
  • Module 3: Engaging Others with Empathy Leadership EQ Mastery Principle 3: Engaging Others with Empathy
    • “Seek first to Understand” people that you work with and manage
    • Engaging others with empathy – Understanding where others are coming from
    • Winning others to your side through understanding others’ emotions and needs
    • Applying key steps to develop empathy in leadership
    • Activity: Empathy Listening Simulation for Leaders
  • Module 4: Dealing with Conflict the EQ-Able Way Leadership EQ Mastery Principle 4: Managing Conflict with EQ
    • Understanding types and causes of conflict at work
    • The importance of managing conflict the EQ way as a leader
    • Using different Conflict Management Styles in different situations - Personal Conflict Management Questionnaire (PCMQ)
    • Activity: Conflict Management Case Study

Tan Huat Chye is currently the Partner and Principal Consultant for THC Consulting Sdn. Bhd. He had been in Human Capital operations and consulting for more than 30 years, specializing in Organisational Development (OD) and Competency-based Human Capital strategies.

Prior to this, Huat Chye worked in the Sunway Group, a large and diversified local conglomerate as a General Manager of Organisational Development (OD). In Sunway, Huat Chye strategized and implemented various Group-wide OD initiatives such as the roll-out of Talent Management, Leadership Development and Succession Planning initiatives. Before Sunway, he worked as Senior Vice-President of Human Resources in Great Eastern Life Malaysia. Apart from normal HR operations, he worked closely with the Singapore Head Office in charting out the HR roadmap for Great Eastern in-road to Chongqing, China.

In the field of consulting, Huat Chye had previously worked as a Senior Consultant for Hay Group, a leading US global Human Resources Consulting firm. In his consulting role, Huat Chye has been involved in projects to review, design and implement Human Resources systems and processes to enhance organizational performance and effectiveness. Other areas that he specialises in are Compensation and Reward Management, Performance Management, Competency Modelling, Leadership Development, Leadership Assessment, and Executive Coaching. He has travelled extensively within the Asia region in managing and implementing various Human Resources projects for both local and multinational companies. As an Executive Coach, Huat Chye has coached Top Leaders (C-Level, C-1 and C-2 Level Leaders) of both local and multinational companies. Among leaders he coached are:

He is also trained and certified in various tools and programs such as 6 Seconds EQ Program, Firo-B, MBTI, Harrison Assessment, Thomas International DISC, Focus-Behavioral Interview (FBI), Job Analysis, Job Evaluation and the Leadership Awakening Program (LEAP).

Huat Chye is a Member of MIM and a Resource Speaker for the Vistage Group. He is also a member of the Music Authors’ Copyright Protection Bhd (MACP) and an accomplished song writer with many commercial pop songs to his credits.
